Graceling: The beginning...

So far I have read to chapter nine in The Graceling.  I really like how Cashore brings us into the story.  I really like the main character Katsa.  She's a kick ass chick.. literally, but I think it is kind of cool that she was graced with awesome fighting skills.  She's an interesting girl who is looked at in a very fearful ways by others because of her behavior influenced from Randa the king.  The main reason why others are so scared is because she killed her cousin by punching him the face.  Many find her intimidating, until you look into her beautiful eyes, as others have said.  She has already kidnapped the grandfather Lienid, and now has, in my opinion, interest in a Lienid herself.  I think the part when Katsa and Po fight each other was cute because they were like enjoying it with there laughs in between each punch...I just had it pictured in my mind and it was funny!  I am looking forward to the upcoming events in her life.  Is she going to have a relationship with Po?  Get in trouble some how?  I am interested in finding out what all happens with the grandfather...

  1. I also found the fight to be quite adorable. In a sense it is like the typical first crush where they tease eachother, only there teasing was a little more intense and involved fists. Katsa has no idea what flirting is or how to tell a guy is interested in her. When he stares at her she is creeped out and does not understand. She is the typical girl who doesn't know she's beautiful, but she also doesn't even understand why it matters. If they do end up having a relationship it's going to a very different tale of puppylove. Katsa most the time doesn't even seem to realize she is a girl. She knows how to pretend to be one but in her mind she is a killing machine for the king. She seems to be more ocupied with the differences she has from those who are not graced than the differences between men and women.

  2. I appositely LOVED the little flirting scene between Katsa and Po! It was too cute. I really hope the relationship with Po and Katsa develops into something more then just flirting. I feel that it would be very interesting if they got together especailly because of how Giddon feels about Katsa. Everyone else in the kingdom besides herself knows how much Giddon likes her which I find is so cute but could create some juicy conflict! Which could end badly but would make for a good story, I think. This also makes me wonder if Po will betray Katsa. To me, so far, he seems to be a little too secretive and dangerous. Which also brings up the question of is Tealiff (the lienid grandfather they kidnapped from the dungeons) really Po’s grandfather because if that is his grandfather why didn’t he stop Katsa while he could? Or make her give him his grandfather or at least follow her to him? That question keeps bugging me. Anyways, I do love the little love triangle that has already developed in such a sort time. I like that this book’s plot is moving fast. It really keeps the reader interested and wanting more.
